"We take a printed and collated book block and place it on the edge that will be the spine. The machine then clamps the block along the front and back of the book to sandwich it very tightly. Then the book block moves across a grinding/nipping wheel. This roughs up the spine to accept glue. After a back and forth motion the book block passes over the glue station. A wheel applies hot glue to the spine. While this process is going a cover for the book is placed under the path of the glued book block. As the book block reaches the cover it is pressed onto the spine and the edges of the spine. The glue cools rapidly and the book block is ready for final trimming." -- Skip Fow Production Manager
